Recent changes to combined list of eligible skilled occupations
On 11 March 2019, the Department of Home Affairs made changes to the list of eligible skilled occupations for Australia’s skilled visa programs.
These updates are effective immediately, and have been made in response to the changes in the skills needs of the Australian labour market. The changes include:
- 36 occupations being added to the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List;
- 27 occupations being removed from the Short-term Skilled Occupation List; and
- 18 occupations being added to the Regional Occupation List.
In addition, as part of a new Visas for General Practitioners initiative, a Health Workforce Certificate will now be required for employers sponsoring overseas trained doctors. The Department’s aim is to direct doctors to more rural, remote and regional areas of Australia.
